The event has now concluded!!  153 people enjoyed the Contra Holiday with fantastic contra dancing and music by Wild Asparagus, calling by George Marshall, Janet Shepherd and Terry Doyle.  In addition we enjoyed an afternoon Ceilidh session with Flying Cat playing, and Peter and Alison Giles calling, an afternoon session of English Country Dancing with Meg’n’Mor playing and Janet Shepherd calling, and an afternoon of squares with Contrasaurus playing and Colin Hume calling.  A pipe organ recital in the cathedral, a concert by Wild Asparagus, and an interval dance performance by the Gog Magog Mollies were also enjoyed.  For all events (except the cathedral) excellent sound was provided by Quentin Fletcher.  We were joined on two evenings by 72 local dancers.  Participants enjoyed Ely, and went on excursions to Cambridge (twice), Norwich, Bletchley Park, Wicken Fen, Castle Acre, Castle Rising, Grimes Graves, Duxford Imperial War Museum, Sandringham House, and Burghley. Four rambles were also offered, and many participated in those also.  We thank the venue for their welcome and kind hosting.  A lovely week!

We are pleased to offer this, our 9th contra dance week in Ely, England from April 2-9, 2025 with Wild Asparagus (Ann Percival, David Cantieni, Becky Tracy, Mark Murphy, Mark Hellenberg) playing with George Marshall as our anchor caller.  Also joining the band on stage this year will be callers Janet Shepherd and Terry Doyle. The British band Contrasaurus will play for us on April 6, 2025 with Charlie Turner calling.  Registration is by mail only and began with June 3, 2024 postmarks.

Dancing in Ely in 2023
Dancing in Ely in 2023

This is a residential dance camp for around 150 participants, with food and accommodations provided.  Dancing will be on a fully sprung wooden floor in a new building built in the traditional style, and will run from 7:30-10:30 pm each evening. The days will be available for exploring or relaxing.  We will be offering a number of excursions, usually including a palace, a stately home, a castle, a museum and some rambles. There will be a small additional charge for bus transportation for these. The dance week will cost $1450 for each attendee.  Single, double and a few multiple occupancy rooms will be available, all on a first come, first served basis.  Traditional calling terms will be used and we aim to gender balance the camp.
